Itinerary
Day 1 : Marrakech – Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – M’hamid
Depart early from Marrakech, crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the winding Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260 m). Stop in Ouarzazate, with an optional visit to the Kasbah of Taourirt. Continue through the palm groves and ancient kasbahs of the Draa Valley before arriving at M’hamid, the gateway to the desert. Dinner and overnight in a local guesthouse.
Day 2 : M’hamid – Trek to Erg Lihoudi
After breakfast, meet your camel caravan and desert team. Begin trekking across the stony Hamada desert and low sand dunes. Pause for a picnic lunch in the shade of tamarisk trees. By late afternoon, arrive at Erg Lihoudi, where golden dunes rise beautifully against the horizon. Dinner and overnight in a nomadic-style desert camp under the stars.
Day 3 : Erg Lihoudi – Erg Bougarn
Wake to the quiet of the desert, then continue your trek through sandy plains and rolling dunes. Stop for a picnic lunch en route. By evening, reach the peaceful dunes of Erg Bougarn, far from villages and roads. Dinner around the fire and overnight in tents.
Day 4 : Erg Bougarn – Erg Zhar
After sunrise and breakfast, set out toward Erg Zhar, one of the Sahara’s most striking dune fields. Walk through shifting sands, dry riverbeds, and scattered acacia trees. Picnic lunch along the way. By late afternoon, arrive near Erg Zhar to set up camp. Dinner and overnight beneath the starry desert sky.
Day 5 : Erg Zhar – Erg Chigaga
An early start takes you deeper into the desert toward the vast Erg Chigaga dunes, the largest in Morocco. Trek across dramatic landscapes of dunes and plateaus, stopping for a picnic lunch. In the evening, climb the tallest dunes for breathtaking sunset views over the Sahara. Dinner with live Berber music and overnight in a desert camp.
Day 6 : Erg Chigaga – Lake Iriki – Foum Zguid – Marrakech
After breakfast, leave the desert by 4×4 jeep, crossing the remote Lake Iriki dry lakebed and heading toward Foum Zguid. Stop for tea along the way, then continue via Taznakht, famous for its traditional Berber carpets. Cross back over the High Atlas Mountains and return to Marrakech in the evening.
